History of The Cafe
Cedar Street Café was established in 1932 during a period when Falcon Hollow still revolved around rail schedules, mill whistles, and the steady routines of small-town life. The building has remained in the same location ever since, angled toward the intersection of Cedar Street and Main as if waiting for the town to arrive from every direction.
Over the decades the café has changed hands and menus have evolved, but the space itself has remained largely the same. The counter bears the marks of years of conversation, and the booths have quietly witnessed generations of local stories unfolding over coffee and breakfast.
The Cafe and the Community
For many residents the café functions less as a business and more as a daily meeting place woven into Falcon Hollow’s routine. Early mornings bring a mix of familiar faces—locals reading the paper, neighbors catching up, and visitors stopping in before heading out toward the lake or surrounding hills.
The café’s longtime presence is closely associated with owner Louise “Lou” Wittman, who began working there as a teenager and eventually purchased the café herself when the previous owner retired. Her goal was simple: keep the café from becoming something else—or disappearing entirely.
Under Lou’s care the café has remained what it has always been: a place where people can sit without explanation and where conversations unfold at the unhurried pace of a small town.

Notable Events

While tensions occasionally surfaced in quiet conversations between regulars, the café itself remained unchanged—its lights still turning on early each morning and its doors opening as they always had.
In times of uncertainty, many residents found themselves returning to the café simply to sit, talk, or wait for the town to regain its sense of normalcy.
