Biography

Amy Novak grew up with curiosity coming at her from two directions. Her father was a mechanic who taught her to figure out how things worked, while her mother, a science teacher, encouraged her to understand why. Together, those influences helped turn a naturally inquisitive kid into someone fascinated by the tiny details other people overlooked.

Amy earned a bachelor’s degree in forensic science from Penn State University before completing a master’s degree in chemistry with a forensic concentration at George Washington University. Her education eventually brought her into professional forensic work in Maryland, where her talent for trace evidence, fibers, adhesives, and other easily overlooked physical evidence quickly became apparent.

Today, Amy serves as the forensic specialist at Falcon Hollow’s Advanced Medical Investigation Center, working closely with Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Sonia “Sunny” Delgado and local investigators. Energetic, quick-witted, and meticulous when the work demands it, Amy has a knack for bringing some life into an occupation that routinely deals with its opposite.

That personality carries beyond the laboratory. Naturally brown-haired, Amy usually dyes her hair red, a choice that suits someone who has never been particularly interested in blending quietly into the background. Add an almost constant supply of iced coffee and a tendency to use humor when things become too serious, and Amy is difficult to mistake for anyone else.

But beneath the color and humor is a dedicated forensic scientist. Amy knows that the smallest fiber, residue, or fragment can change the direction of an investigation. For her, evidence isn't simply something collected at a scene. It's a voice—and her job is to make certain it gets heard.
