Biography
Brooke Elizabeth Allen grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri, outside St. Louis. The middle child in a working-class family, Brooke learned early to pay attention to what people said—and, perhaps more importantly, what they left unsaid. Her mother encouraged her curiosity and love of words, while evenings spent playing Scrabble helped develop an interest in language that would eventually become central to her career.
Brooke studied criminology before beginning her career in local law enforcement. Several years working patrol and moving toward investigative assignments exposed her to domestic violence and other crimes in which understanding behavior could be as important as collecting physical evidence. In 2012, she entered the FBI Academy at Quantico and began the next stage of her career as a federal agent.
Assignments in New York and Orlando brought Brooke into increasingly complex violent-crime investigations. Along the way, she returned to school and earned a master’s degree in forensic linguistics, developing particular expertise in threat analysis, ritualized communication, and the ways offenders reveal themselves through language. Her combination of investigative experience and linguistic analysis eventually made her a valuable resource on cases that crossed traditional investigative boundaries.
A multistate predator investigation in 2019 became a defining point in Brooke’s career. After concerns she raised failed to prevent the loss of another victim, she became even more demanding of herself and increasingly reluctant to dismiss details that others considered insignificant. The experience strengthened her professional resolve, but it also reinforced the emotional reserve that had long been part of her personality.
Now a Supervisory Special Agent assigned to the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office, Brooke lives in Towson, Maryland. At five-foot-eight, with dark brown hair and gray eyes that can take on a green cast in certain light, she presents the same understated, controlled appearance she brings to her work. One small tell occasionally breaks that composure: when concentrating, Brooke taps her pen three times, pauses, and taps three more.
Brooke’s work eventually brought her to Falcon Hollow, where her expertise became an important part of the Father’s Day investigation. Working alongside Duke Mantz and local investigators challenged some of the distance she had learned to maintain throughout her career. For Brooke, understanding criminal behavior has never been about reading minds. It is about listening carefully enough to recognize the patterns people leave behind—and knowing when those patterns are trying to say something.
