Father's Day: A Duke Mantz Novel

Biography

Travis "Duke" Mantz was born in Frederick County, Maryland, and spent his childhood in a close-knit railroad community where hard work, accountability, and neighbors looking after one another were simply part of everyday life. His summers were often spent at Falcon Lake fishing alongside his father, experiences that instilled a lifelong appreciation for patience, quiet observation, and the importance of earning trust rather than demanding it. The loss of his father at a young age profoundly shaped Duke's sense of responsibility, reinforcing a belief that those entrusted with protecting others should never look away when someone needs help.

Following high school, Duke enlisted in the United States Army Military Police Corps, serving ten years as both a Military Police officer and later as an investigator. His military service, including a deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom, strengthened his discipline and investigative instincts while leaving him with experiences that continue to influence his outlook on justice, leadership, and personal responsibility. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home and joined the Falcon Hollow Police Department, where his steady temperament and methodical approach quickly earned the respect of fellow officers and eventually led to his promotion to detective.<br>

Today, Duke serves as a detective assigned to the Major Case Unit, where he is recognized for his patient investigative style and unwavering commitment to following the evidence wherever it leads. Although naturally reserved, he has become a trusted mentor to younger officers and a dependable colleague to detectives, forensic specialists, and medical investigators throughout the department. His reputation is built not on dramatic moments or public recognition, but on quiet professionalism, careful preparation, and a belief that every victim deserves the truth.
